Jammu, Aug 26: Jammu and Kashmir Pollution Control Board conducted public hearing today for the environmental clearance of Ujh multipurpose project (196 MW) Jatwal, to be constructed by J&K Power Development Corporation. The first Phase of the public hearing was conducted in Billawar Tehsil of District Kathua where main part of the project features like Dam, Power House & Barrage etc are to be constructed. Today it was the second part of the public hearing, for the same project which includes the Right canal which is to be constructed in District Samba. A large number of the people & their public Representative Including chairman BDC Ghagwal, Sarpanches/Punches of the adjoining project affected Punchyets like , Jatwal, Sangwali,Tapyal, Rai, Nonath, Katli , Diani, etc participated. At the onset Public hearing, Er. Sanjay Rathore representing Regional Director J&K PCB, Jammu brief the public present about the importance of conducting public hearing & Role of PCB. Project consultant from M/s WAPCOS (A Govt Of India undertaking) and Expects from Central Water Commission gave detailed description of the project , its silent features and Environmental impact Assessment (EIA) and Environment management plan (EMP). Various issues related with the project and the canal passing through District Samba particularly through villages, Jatwal, Sangwali, Ghagwal, nonath, Katli, Diani etc were highlighted/ raised by the public and their representative. All the issues related were discussed in threadbare, queries raised were answered by the project consultant. Assistant Commissioner Revenue Samba Jetinder Mishra addressed the gathering present and assured that all the important issues/ concerns raised by project affected people are recorded by vediography and will incorporated in the report to be submitted to Ministry of Envirionment & Forest (MOEF). Divisional Officer, PCB Samba (South) Angreez Singh presented vote of thanks other officers present during public hearing were Chief Engineer J&K RDC, Chief Engineer Jal Shakti Deptt, Officer of the JKSPCD, Central Water Commission Tehsildar Ghagwal. Proceeding of the public hearing were conducted by Randeep Manhas (Scientist), Er. Sampat Singh and Subash Chander.
