BMS demand central rates of minimum wages in power projects | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Aug 26: A meeting of Kisan Mazdoor Union, registered body of workers engaged in power projects in district Kishtwar and affiliated with Bhartiya Mazdoor Sangh (BMS), held today. President of the Union Rakesh Kumar Thakur and General Secretary Naseeb Singh chaired the meeting held at BMS office in which Ashok Choudhary, General Secretary and Harbans Choudhary, senior leaders of BMS also participated. The meeting discussed the problems being faced by the workers and exploitation on account of non-implementation of labour laws. The members said that the various projects are being constructed by the public sector giant M/s NHPC and major stake holder is central government but wages are being paid of state government, moreover there is partiality in granting allowances by Jay Pee. They alleged that the local administration particularly police intervene unnecessarily and harass the workers and their representatives wher as the police has to maintain only law and order issues or any illegal activities and has created an atmosphere of terror among the poor workers on the behest of moneyed construction companies. The labour leaders demanded that since the projects are being funded by the central govt and major stake holder and control is of public sector NHPC and under law minimum wages are applicable of central sphere. |
