SAD condemns Govt decision for non inclusion of Punjabi | | | Early times Report
Jammu, Sep 3: An emergency meeting of SAD (Badal) J&K Jammu was held at Jammu under the chairmanship of Mohinder Singh Jethedhar party President to take stock of the Central Govt. decision to exclude the Punjabi language while recommended five languages of J&K U/T. This decision has hurt the sentiments of all Punjabi speaking population of both divisions of JK Union Territory especially Sikh community. This being the mother tongue of Sikh community and by dropping Punjabi language, the community feels alienated and neglected both at State and Centre level. The other local languages viz, Urdu, Kashmiri, Hindi and Dogri has been inducted as official languages and the Punjabi has been ignored. Punjabi language have been flourishing in the erstwhile state of J&K right from Sikh rule and all the official documentation was done in Punjabi. Special arrangements were made by Maharaja Ranjit Singh for its development and dissemination. Sikh community is being alienated and neglected by the BJP Govt. at the centre as well as state level and all its legimate demands and issues are not being considered. This clearly indicates that only false promises are being made by the Govt to safe guard the rights of minorities to win their sympathy only. It is impressed upon the state and central Govt, to include Punjabi language in the list before the bill is being introduced in the Parliament. Among others who attended the meeting include Suchwant Singh, Adv Surinder Singh, S. Manjit Singh, Karan Singh and others.
