Former DC ordered demolition at same place, new admin overlooks | Illegal constructions come up again in Rajouri town | | RAJESH TANDON
EARLY TIMES REPORT
RAJOURI, Sept 3: It may sound bizarre but it’s true that the illegal constructions have been coming up again in Rajouri town these days at the same place where a former Deputy Commissioner Rajouri had launched a demolition drive in order to decongest the road but now new administration has been acting as a mute spectator. Sources told Early Times that in April 2017, the then Deputy Commissioner Rajouri, Dr. Shahid Iqbal had taken an initiative of anti-encroachment under the initiative 'Rajouri Redevelopment Plan' despite strong resistance from various quarters. Majority of the people welcomed the move and termed it a prerequisite to decongest the town. “Dismantling in residential area in Bela Colony along Darhali river was conducted and over half a dozen residential structures and over ten shops were grounded. Many families had lost their dream homes that day but the initiative was taken purely on merit as it was meant for overall improvement and decongestion of the town,” they said. They further informed that thereafter a work for setting up parks was started along river bank which is yet to commence properly but amid all this, construction of some shops were started along a mosque in the area where the drive was launched in April 2017. Shockingly, the construction of shops is going on at the same land where demolition was held in 2017 but the concerned administration is not taking any action in this regard till date. Despite repeated attempts to contact Meanwhile, DC Rajouri didn’t respond to multiple attempts made by this scribe to contact him. |
