Fighting for rights, Ex-Servicemen knock J&K LG's door for land acquisition | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Sept 6: Sacrificed lives for the nation's pride, hundreds of Ex-Servicemen have ultimately knocked the doors of newly appointed Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha for acquisition of land, which they claimed has not been demarcated to the Sainik Colony Housing Society despite the order issued from office of the Assistant Commissioner (Revenue), Deputy Commissioner Jammu. The Society members during a meeting convened here on Sunday told media persons that in 1970 Housing Society was awarded 4198 Kanal and 15 Marla of land in different Khasra Numbers by the state (now UT). "The awarded land was not handed over/demarcated to the society on ground but instead in shape of a big chunk of land and identified by outer boundary walls," the members claimed asserting that as established by various committee reports by learned Deputy Commissioners and affidavits by Divisional Commissioner to the High Court, till date, that the Khasra Nos 772 & 773 located incidentally in centre of Sainik Colony, Village Sunjwan were not acquired during award of land in 1970 but remained in possession of the society since 1970. "The land mafia in accomplice with some revenue officials, took an advantage and objected to works of housing society following which the case was highlighted and contested at various levels and it was established that land was in possession of the society," the members said. The aggrieved members of Sainik Colony Housing Society further claimed that recently it was unequivocally established that different parts of land under Khasra Numbets 772 and 773 being “Gair Mumkin Khad” and sale, purchase and transactions were in contravention of Section 20-B of Big Landed Estates Abolition Act and this land escheats to the State. "The Financial Commissioner (Revenue) had also sought legal opinion and it was found violation of various sections under Landed Estates Abolition Act resulting in this land being escheated to state," they said. "We have sacrificed our lives for the pride of the nation and in return, instead of being rewarded, left with no other option than knocking the doors of the Court or run pillar to post for justice," the members rued. They asserted that many of their members, who had been equally participating into the struggle in this fight for rights, expired, adding, "the next of kind of these members have now joined us for justice." "We appeal to the Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha to intervene and look into the matter personally and see how the saviours of the nation are being treated in the hands of land mafia, who are not only well connected but also hand in glove with some administrative persons in the machinery and looting the state exchequer," they alleged. The Society members further appealed to the LG to allow them to meet him through his office so that he can be made aware about the ground realities and justice to be delivered to them.
