Udhampur, Sept 9: Residents of Ward number 21 on Wednesday decried the “apathetic attitude” of the district administration towards the grievances of their locality. Addressing media persons here, Naresh Mathur, a social activist of the town, and resident of Ward number 21, said, “We’ve been running from pillar to post since 2016 to get the civic issues of our area addressed, but the administration has turned ‘deaf ears’ towards our problems.” According to Naresh, the Bypass road from Head Post Office to National Highway-44 was dug up by UEED several months ago “and till date, the road has not been renovated owing to which the commuters plying on this stretch have been facing hardships.” On several occasions in the past, Naresh Mathur said that people plying on this stretch have met with accidents and suffered injuries. “Even after highlighting our miseries with the concerned people, seeking their redressal, none of them have reached out to the people as on date,” he said. Mathur added that people of his Ward had also highlighted the issues of their locality with the LG Manoj Sinha through a memorandum of demands submitted to the latter through the CEO Udhampur Municipality. “And we’re hopeful that the LG will do the needful soon,” Mathur said. Meanwhile, Mathur also expressed concern over the encroachment of the Head Post Office-National Highway-44 Bypass road. He said that the road, that was 12-15 feet earlier, has been encroached by the people “and it needs to be retrieved for the common good of all the people travelling on this stretch.” Those who accompanied the social activist during the presser were Roop Chand, Ram Dass, Varun and Som Raj. |
