EARLY TIMES REPORT

JAMMU, Sept 11: Alleging illegal and forceful occupation of the land of Gurudwara Yaadgar Shri Guru Nanak Dev Ji, Chand Nagar, Jammu by the JDA and few influential people, the National Sikh Front (NSF) demanded that this scam should be properly investigated by sitting Judge of the High Court.
Addressing a meeting of the Front held here today Nanak Nagar, Chairman NSF, Varinderjeet Singh said that Chairman of the Front Varinder Jeet Singh said that the land of Gurudwara Yaadgar Shri Guru Nanak Dev Ji which is in several kanals of area has been illegally and forcefully occupied by JDA and other influential people of the city and this land scam should be properly investigated by sitting Judge of the High Court.
He said that there was several kanals of land adjoining to the land of Gurudwara Sahib, the record of which is present with the revenue department. JDA has made a market in front of the gate of Gurudwara Sahib from which JDA gets lakhs of rupees every year as rent.
Singh said that the JDA with revenue department together has given the land to hotel owners and other influential people of the city, adding that Gurudwara Prabandhak Committees have written several times to the Government about getting the land back but the Government has never listened to them.
He said that JDA does not have any work to do these days, therefore they are now occupying the land which belongs to religious minority community and increase their income, the latest example being of Panjbakhtar Mandir land which was given to National Highway Authority to make a parking lot and increase the income of JDA.
Singh said that he has written a letter to Lt Governor Manoj Sinha about this and has sought time to meet him. He appealed to the Lt Governor that the illegal occupation of Gurudwara land should be removed and the land be given to Gurudwara Prabandhak Committee, adding that if J&K UT Government does not do this, the Sikh will have to resort to agitation.
Others who attended the meeting included Kulwant Singh Bhatti, President, Gurdyal Singh Bali, General Secretary, Ramnik Singh, Amandeep Singh, Mohinder Singh ex-IAF Officer, Surinder Singh of Kathua and GS Sudan.
