Early Times Report

Jammu, Oct 7: A very unprecedented situation was witnessed today in Panchayat Dharamshal of block Siot of district Rajouri during the phase-3 of Back to Village programme, where neither concerned incharge of the programme nor the panchayat representatives were present on the occasion. Even the local residents were also not present as they were not informed about the organising of the B2V programme. The local residents alleged that the concerned officials as well as the Sarpanch and panches were not available in the programme. Senior officials, who were incahrge of the programme remained absent only few employees were present, which shows that the organising programme is just an eyewash.
“It was the duty of the local panchayat representative to inform the people about the programme so that maximum people should participate in the programme in order to highlight their problems,” said Jai Ram, a local resident.
He further said that there is no benefit of organising such a programme as the development issues highlighted in previous B2V programmes have not been redressed so far. The main reason of poor presence of the local residents can be attributed to the non-redressal of their previous grievances, he added.
“Third phase of the B2V programme is underway but the problems of the people related to development are still not taken care of. Public money is being wasted in organizing such a programme, which has no result,” another resident alleged.
He further said that the government should fix the responsibility of today’s failure of the programme. Although the BDC Chairman had visited the spot, and found no presence of local panchayaat representatives as well as the senior officials of the various departments and left the spot.
