BJP In Tight Spot | | | Finally, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) high command has sidelined Ram Madhav from Jammu and Kashmir affairs. Madhav, former national general secretary of the party, was dropped from the list of national office bearers of the party nearly 2-months ago, but a few local BJP leaders were of the opinion that despite Madhav being stripped of the important party post he will continue to be a point man for J&K, but that has not happened. Tarun Chug, newly appointed BJP national general secretary, has replaced him as he has started managing the party affairs in J&K and Ladakh UTs. The critics of Madhav give many reasons for him being sidelined from the party as well as J&K affairs. The biggest reason being cited by them for Madhav’s ouster is that he promoted only particular leaders and most of them failed to perform. His experiment with the Peoples Conference chairman Sajad Gani Lone also ended up in a big fiasco. Madhav was even blamed for giving too much room to the BJP’s old ally in Jammu and Kashmir, Peoples Democratic Party. Madhav during his tenure ignored the Jammu region and just spoke about Kashmir. For him Jammu didn’t even exist. The complaints of Jammu based party workers about the local BJP leaders were never taken seriously by Madhav. He tried to push all the sensitive matters under the carpet. The local leaders, who enjoyed Madhav’s patronage, in Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh regions could not do much for the party and just proved to be the poster boys. Now, the J&K’s command has been handed over to Chug and the forthcoming District Development Commission (DDC) election in J&K is the important task which he will have to accomplish. Given the track record of the BJP leaders in Jammu, Chug may not find things so easy. There is a lot of resentment brewing against the local leaders of the saffron party in Jammu region. Many people believe that BJP leaders have not been able to live upto the expectations of the masses in Jammu and have failed to fulfill the promises which they had made to them. If the BJP fails to perform in the DDC polls, which are slated to be held in eight phases from November 28 onwards, it could prove to be a big setback for the saffron party, whose leaders are grappling to strike the chord with the people. Chug may have to pay for the mistakes which were committed by Madhav and his men in the past. |
