Jammu, Nov 21: As part of World Heritage Week celebrations, INTACH Jammu chapter in collaboration with the Department of Wildlife Protection, J&K organized heritage drive from Jammu University to Gharana Wetland Conservation Reserve, RS Pura. During the drive, heritage components of Gharana wetland, conservation proposals to protect it, development schemes and other methods adopted by various other departments to bring it on the tourism map of Jammu were discussed. Dr CM Seth IFS SM Sahni (Convenor INTACH Jammu Chapter) Dr MK Kumar IFS, Prof Anil Raina, Prof RK Rampal, Arvind Kotwal KAS(retd) Vinod Malhotra ( Former Dev. Comm. Town Planning) Dr Deepika Slathia, Dr Sanjay Sharma, Dr Piyush Malviya, Amit K Atri (Wild Life Warden Jammu) and several students, scholars from Jammu University were the prominent participants who took part in this heritage drive. The participants explained the historical features of this important international site, approach needed to be taken so that flora and fauna of wetland are not disturbed and steps to be taken to increase the bird flow. Moreover, it was also suggested that there is need to conserve and preserve the vanishing varieties of birds, turtles and other species of wildlife prevailing at Gharana wetland. SM Sahni, Convenor INTACH Jammu Chapter highlighted that every year heritage week is celebrated and this year due to Covid-19 pandemic only the outdoor activities are being organized by Jammu Chapter. |
