Jammu, Nov 24: As the first phase of eight phase elections to District Development Council (DDC) is drawing closer the people participation has increased with each passing day as thousands are attending the political rallies of various candidates in Doda and Kishtwar districts. As per the details available with Early Times, besides PDP, NC, Congress, BJP—several independent candidates are racing up for 28 seats of DDCs from Kishtwar and Doda Districts with top political leaders not only campaigning in these elections along with elections on vacant Panchayats, but several for ministers including Abdul Gani Malik (Reasi) and Shakti Raj Parihar (Doda) are contesting DDC elections. In many areas— highly qualified youths are contesting the elections and are garnering the huge public support in their own favour—thus posing a major challenge to various mainstream political parties. It is not only educated youths, but few employees also resigned from their service to contest these elections. In Marwah and Warwan huge rallies are being witnessed wherein candidates are busy in their respective campaign despite heavy snowfall in the area where the District Administration has already airdrop the polling parties to ensure free and fair elections. It is not only male candidates who are enthusiastic about these elections— the women reservation had also generate lot of women participation in these elections— though many people termed the “women empowerment” as “Husband empowerment” or “family empowerment” instead of the women empowerment since there was already a bad experience witnessed from PRIs wherein mostly the husbands or brothers are acting on behalf of the elected women representatives. |
