| Agreement will be for crops not land: Raman Suri | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Dec 9: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) J&K Executive Member Raman Suri today said that apprehension of farmers that their land will be taken away by big corporate houses is completely false and that the contract agreement between farmers and buyers will be for crop/produce and not the land. The agreement will also guarantee the farmers fixed price for their crops. Accusing opposition leaders of brainwashing farmers, Raman Suri said that farmers are masters of their own will and can withdraw from the contract at any point without any penalty. The law clearly prohibits sale, lease or mortgage of farmers' land. Agreement will be for crops not land, he asserted. The law also guarantees a price for farmers and a penalty in case of payment failure. Describing the band call given by opposition as a failure, Raman Suri said that MSP is an independent structure which will not be impacted by this law. He regretted that while Mandis all over the country were functioning normally on December 8, it were some goons who tried to force close them which is condemnable. Apprising farmers about how corporate houses along with farmers in many states produce crops like sugarcane, cotton, tea and coffee, he said that the new law will help small farmers to benefit from advanced technology and equipments with guaranteed profits. This will eventually lead to overall development and prosperity of the entire farmer community in our country. |
