Early Times Report

Jammu, Dec 22: Principal opposition party of Jammu province Congress performed very badly due to infighting and wrong distribution of tickets.
Instead of giving mandate to deserving candidates, senior Congress leaders preferred to manage mandates for their loyalists resulting in humiliating defeat of the party in Jammu, Samba, Kathua and Udhampur districts where party has failed to get respectable seats. Party even failed to open its account in Jammu, Samba and Udhampur districts.
Ego among senior leaders and infighting was the main cause of party insulting and humiliating defeat in the District Development Councils (DDCs) elections.
Humiliating defeat of party candidates from two constituencies of Khour assembly segment was clear indication of ego clash among Congress leaders.
Former Deputy Chief Minister, Tara Chand had taken a stand against giving party mandate to Satish Sharma, son of Congress stalwart and veteran leader Madan Lal Sharma. Instead of giving mandate to deserving Satish Sharma, Tara Chand managed mandate for his loyalist. Satish Sharma secured second position after BJP candidate but Congress candidate failed to get respectable votes.
Satish Sharma is not an isolated case; senior Congress leaders had opposed party mandates to deserving youth just to accommodate their undeserving loyalists.
Almost all Jammu based senior Congress leaders, who had served as ministers in the previous regime, have failed to win seats in their respective areas.
