New Delhi, Dec 26: Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the Ayushman Bharat PM-JAY SEHAT scheme to extend universal health coverage to all residents of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir via video conferencing on Saturday, repeating the famous Vajpayee quote 'Insaniyat, Jamhuriyat and Kashmiriyat' would always be there for guidance.
Former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee had said that Kashmir problem would be resolved with
'Insaniyat, Jamhuriyat and Kashmiriyat' (Humanity, Democracy and Kashmiriyat). The quote had become very popular with Kashmiri leaders and people and was welcomed by most Kashmiri politicians. Former Chief Minister Mahbooba Mufti often referred to the quote.
Recalling the special bond that Mr Vajpayee had with Jammu and Kashmir, Mr Modi said the former Prime Minister's dictum of 'Insaniyat, Jamhuriyat and Kashmiriyat' would also be there to guide.
He described the extension of the coverage of Ayushman Yojna to J and K as 'historic' and said the development of the people of J and K is one of the 'biggest priorities' of the government.
'Whether it is about women empowerment, opportunities for the youth, uplift of dalits, exploited and deprived or its is the question of constitutional and fundamental rights of the people, our government is taking decisions for the welfare of the people,' he added.
The scheme will focus on providing financial risk protection and quality and affordable health services to all individuals and communities and free of cost insurance cover to all residents of the UT of Jammu and Kashmir.
It also provides a financial cover upto Rs five lakh per family on a floater basis and for operational extension of PM-JAY to approximately Rs 15 lakh additional families. The scheme will operate on insurance mode in convergence with PM-JAY and its benefits will be portable across the country.
The hospitals empanelled under PM-JAY scheme will provide services under this as well.
