Amid widening fissures in PAGD, Omar-Sajad to hold talks | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Jan 7: With the constituents of the so called Peoples Alliance for Gupkar Declaration complaining of “step-motherly treatment” by the National Conference, which allegedly grabbed lion’s share of seats in the recently held District Development Council elections, two of the senior leaders of the PAGD are likely to hold a meeting soon. Sources said the former Chief Minister and the National Conference President Omar Abdullah looks ahead to hold a closed-door meeting with the separatist turned mainstream leader Sajad Lone. Sources said the NC has decided for the meeting following “widening of fissures” in the PAGD. Sources said the proposed meeting between Sajad and Omar, once seen as arch rivals, would be the first since in the last few months and that Gupkar office of the NC President is supposed to be the venue for the same. It was reliably learnt that the meeting would be held on morning tea with only two of them present. Sources said barring NC, most of the other six constituents of the PAGD look ahead to part ways from the amalgam while Sajad Lone is expected to take a lead by being the first one to quit the conglomerate. Sources said the NC wants that no party should leave the PAGD and that “any rebellion at the moment would be detrimental for their collective political career.” “Any of the constituents leaving the amalgam will have a cascading effect on the regional politics and thus such fissures need to be repaired,” said a NC leader on the condition of anonymity. Sources said given the seizure of the property of NC patron, Dr Farooq Abdullah the party is most concerned to keep the PAGD in place. “Keeping the alliance alive has become vital for the political survival of the Abdullahs in particular,” said a senior politician on the condition of anonymity. |
