PDP leader Naeem again shifted to jail from hospital in Srinagar | | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, Jan 17: Former minister and senior Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leader Naeem Akhtar was again shifted to jail from hospital where he was admitted on January 14 after he fell unconscious in his detention room. Naeem Akhtar, who served as the spokesperson for the PDP-BJP coalition government in Jammu and Kashmir, was arrested on December 21 last year from his house, few days before the counting of votes in the District Development Council (DDC) elections which were held for the first time in the Union Territory (UT). He was kept in MLA hospital which has been turned into a sub-jail after August 5 last year where majority of former ministers, legislators and senior leaders were lodged after Centre abrogated Article 370 and 35 A besides dividing the state into two Union Territories (UT). However, on January 14 Naeem fainted in the room for about 40 minutes and was shifted to a private hospital. He has again been shifted to sub-jail MLA hospital, official sources said on Sunday. Akhtar was among the hundreds of mainstream leaders arrested on August 5 last year. However, he was among the last to be released after he refused to sign an undertaking that he will not raise the issue of state’s special status after his release. |
