jammu, Jan 19: Succumbing before pressure of his own party leaders Peoples Conference chairman Sajad Lone on Tuesday said his party was withdrawing from the Peoples' Alliance for Gupkar Declaration (PAGD), saying there has been a breach of trust between the constituent parties, which was "beyond remedy".
In its December 11 edition the Early Times had reported that Lone was facing intense pressure from senior leaders of his party to come out of the PAGD to protect the identity of his own party.
It was all due to pressure from senior leaders that Sajad Lone has become inactive in activities of PAGD. Lone was appointed as spokesperson of PAGD and earlier he used to brief media persons.
Reliable sources told the Early Times, most of senior leaders of the party were annoyed with the attitude of leaders of other constituents of PAGD during recently held District Development Councils (DDCs) elections.
Realizing that leaders of the National Conference and PDP are trying to dominate Peoples' Conference, Sajad Lone ultimately came out of the Alliance.
"It is difficult for us to stay on and pretend as if nothing has happened. There has been a breach of trust between partners which we believe is beyond remedy. The majoritarian view in our party is that we should pull out of the alliance in an amicable manner rather than waiting for things to get messier. And I am confirming that we will no longer be a part of the PAGD alliance," Lone said, in a letter to PAGD president Farooq Abdullah.
He, however, said that they were divorcing from the alliance, not its objectives. "We will continue to adhere to the objectives that we set out when this alliance was made. And the PAGD leadership should be assured that we will extend support on all issues which fall within the ambit of stated objectives. We have issued clear instructions to all party leaders not to issue any statements against PAGD alliance or its leaders," added Lone, in the letter.
o Some PC candidates had lost DDCs elections due to proxy candidates fielded by NC and PDP in their respective seats.
o Two senior leaders of the PC including Imran Ansari, ex-minister and Abdul Gani Vakil, ex-minister have already expressed their anger in public against the attitude of other constituents of PAGD during the just concluded DDCs elections.
o Imran Ansari has written to his party chief Sajad Lone for reconsidering the trust he has shown in the PAGD.
