MVD holds awareness programme on fitness of commercial vehicles | | | early times report SAMBA, Jan 21: An awareness programme on the fitness of commercial vehicles was organized here today as part of the 32nd Road Safety campaign. The programme was organized by the Motor Vehicles Department. A large number of Drivers, Conductors participated in the programme. Assistant Regional Transport Officer, Rehana Tabassam was the key speaker. Motor Vehicle Inspector Vikas Srivats besides other officials of ARTO office were also present. The ARTO exhorted the Drivers and Conductors of Mini-Buses, Buses, Trucks, PUVs etc. to follow Road Safety norms in letter & spirit for the safety of commuters. She maintained that the drivers & conductors of commercial vehicles have an important role to play in the safety of passengers/road users as well as in the growth of the transport sector in the country. She stressed upon the drivers to avoid overloading - which is considered as the main cause of mishaps. She also told them to adopt the habit of wearing proper uniform and seat belt, which will automatically evolve a sense of responsibility among them. Motor Vehicle Inspector, Vikas Srivats also addressed the participants and highlighted their important role in saving human lives. He asked them to keep their vehicles fit, to avoid mishaps on account of mechanical failures. He told the participants not to compromise minor problems related to fitness of their vehicle as they can end up with major problems including breakdown of the vehicle. The breakdown of the vehicle can cause an accident/mishap and at some times it turns out to be as fatal. He also apprised the participants regarding the important role of Retro Reflective Tapes, which are mandatory to be stuck on all sides of the vehicle as per the Motor Vehicle rules. He apprised the participants that the use of RR Tapes has drastically reduced the rate of Road accidents in India .He also gave some other tips to the participants on Road safety. At the end of the programme, a Road Safety Pledge was taken by the participants to follow Road Safety rules and encourage others to follow the same so that the rate of accident related deaths can be minimized. |
