JAMMU, Jan 29: The passage of Kashmiri Hindu Shrines and Temples Bill is gaining momentum with almost all Kashmiri Pandi organisations demanding it’s passage.. The Pt. Prem Nath Bhat Memorial Trust which has launched a movement for last two decades for passage of the Bill has got the support from all KP bodies within India and abroad. With deteriorating condition of shrines and temples in Valley the KP organisations have decided to intensify it’s campaign for protection of all Hindu shrines and temples in Valley. The Kashmiri Pandits said that these shrines and temples are heritage and cultural monuments and their preservation is must for the posterity as they represent the architecture of thousands of years. As per a survey done by community and Pt Prem Nath Bhat Memorial Trust there are about 1400 temples and shrines in Kashmir out of which half of them have been damaged. These shrines and temples were either damaged by terrorists or suffered the damage as they were not maintained during 32 year long turmoil and constitution of a body through due process of law is must for their upkeep and management. Besides, Prem Nath Bhat Memorial Trust, Global Kashmiri Pandit Diaspora, National Conference Minority Cell, All Parties Migrant Coordination Committee, Panun Kashmir, Jagti Tenement Committee have been forcefully demanding passage of the Bill which has been put in cold storage by the Government for a decade now under the pressure of certain politicians and self styled temple bodies who are opposed to passage of the bill. |
