Govt PG College Rajouri celebrates World Wetlands Day | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
RAJOURI, Feb 2: The Science Club in collaboration with Department of Botany and Environmental Science of Govt. PG College Rajouri celebrated World Wetlands Day here today. On this occasion, an intra-college symposium on the theme “Wetlands and Water” organized in which students of various semesters in the college participated. The speakers detailed the audience about various aspects of Wetlands and their conservation. Sana Wani won first position whereas Afiya Tabassum stood second. Principal of College, Prof (Dr) Shakeel Ahmed Raina who was chief guest on the occasion, underlined the importance of Wetlands and their conservation for safeguarding life connected with them. He appreciated the participating departments for joining nation and world society in raising awareness about these huge natural resources. Dr Anwer Shah, Head, Department of Botany also asserted upon the inculcation of eco-friendly behaviour among students and younger generation to conserve the important ecosystem containing water bodies. Dr Junaid Jazeb, Head, Department of Environmental Sciencegave a comprehensive overview of Gharana and other Wetlands of Jammu and Kashmir. Earlier, Dr Ashaq Malik, Secretary of Science Club, introduced the audience about the programme since its inception in 1971. The programme concluded by an interactive quiz in which random questions related to wetlands and Ramsar sites asked and instant prizes were given to the winners.
