Workshop on "Fate of Regional Languages and Translation Skills" held | | | Early Times Report VIJAYPUR, Feb 20: GDC Vijaypur organized a one-day workshop on "Fate of Regional Languages and Translation Skills" on International Mother Language Day which is observed on 21st of February every year to spread awareness about importance of linguistic, cultural diversity and multilingualism. The inaugural address was given by Kuldeep Singh (HOD Punjabi) where he highlighted the importance of celebrating International Mother Language Day. The event comprised of two sessions. In the first session, two research papers were presented by Sunil Kumar Mangoch and Gunjeet Mahiwal on topics 'Regional Languages in Modern Era: Challenges, Solutions and Future' and 'Importance of Translation Skills' respectively. Sunil emphasized that learning to speak in the mother tongue is very important for a child's overall development. Being fluent in the native language, benefits the child in many ways as it connects them to their culture, ensures better cognitive development and aids in the learning of other languages. Sangeeta Sudan, Principal of the College exhorted that the celebration of 'Matribhashas' (mother languages) does not end with the conclusion of 'Matribhasha Diwas'. In fact, everyday should be celebrated as 'Matribhasha Diwas'. She further added that teaching in mother tongue at the initial stages of education gives impetus to the growth of mind and thought and makes children more creative and logical. |
