Second rung BJP leaders ‘cheating’ poor people | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Feb 20: Notwithstanding claims of party top brass to selflessly serve the people, some lower level BJP leaders are allegedly cheating poor people in the name of providing ‘services’ to them at their door-steps. From the outskirts of Jammu city some locals have alleged that a BJP leader has been charging Rs 50 from poor people while distributing Ayusham Card. Importantly these people have already deposited Rs 60 as fee of this card in advance. “When we applied for the card, Rs 60 was charged for each card as a fee. While charging the fee, a proper receipt was also given to us at that time”, one of the residents told The Early Times on the condition of anonymity. He revealed that now a local level BJP leader has collected all cards from the concerned department and distributing the same by charging Rs 50 for each card as additional fee. The resident said that the BJP leader is not giving receipt of Rs 50. Sources said that cheating people in the name of helping people to get benefits of the government's welfare scheme has become an easy way for some second rung BJP leaders in Jammu province. After the imposition of Governor’s rule in J&K, second rung BJP leaders have been mounting pressure on the officers at local level in one way or another. Earlier some BJP leaders were seen distributing domicile certificates to the residents, despite the fact that it is official work. Be it domicile certificate or Ayushman Card, these are official documents and BJP leaders have no authority to distribute the same in public functions just to get publicity. BJP has no right to distribute domicile certificates. To provide a domicile certificate or Ayushman Card is the administration’s job and not that of any political party. |
