SRINAGAR, Feb 20: Ahead of fresh spell of rain and snow from Sunday evening, day become cold due to cloudy sky on Saturday in the Kashmir valley, where minimum temperature witnessed a major surge and settled several degree above normal.
A Met department spokesman said today that weather will remain dry in the Jammu and Kashmir during the next 24 hours.
However, there could be very light rain and snow at isolated place in the Kashmir valley while the weather will remain mainly dry in Jammu region, he said.
After witnessing pleasant weather during the day for over ten days, people woke up to a cloudy morning resulting in cold after minimum temperature recorded surge and settled several degree above normal in the valley, where orchards and vegetable fields remained under snow.
Met spokesman said due to cloudy weather the minimum temperature in summer capital, Srinagar witnessed surge. Against yesterdays minus 0.2 degree, the minimum temperature today was 3.6 degree, 2.6 notches above normal.
However, maximum temperature which was 17.6 degree, 7.7 notches below normal yesterday, recorded drop due to cloudy sky on Saturday. People could again seen wearing warm and woolen cloths. However, tourists from different parts of the country were seen enjoying the weather in the famed Dal Lake area and other tourist places.
Met spokesman said the sky would be partly to generally cloudy and the maximum and minimum temperatures would be around 14 degree and 3 degree respectively in Srinagar during the next 24 hours.
The world famous ski resort of Gulmarg, where winter games are slated to be held from February 25, also recorded surge. Against yesterdays minus 2.5 degree it was 00 degree today, 6.8 notches above normal.
