Cong, PDP reduced to zilch in DDC polls: Kavinder | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Feb 20: The prolific policies of the Bharatiya Janata Party have won it the love and trust of the people of Jammu and Kashmir in the recently concluded elections of District Development Councils and its chairpersons, while the other national parties and regional parties have been shown the door by the public. This was stated by the former Deputy Chief Minister and senior BJP leader Kavinder Gupta in a statement issued here on Saturday. Speaking a day after the culmination of elections of Chairpersons and Vice-Chairpersons of DDCs in Jammu and Kashmir, Gupta said that BJP won all six Councils in Jammu region while the Congress Party has been severely rejected by the people across the Union Territory. The former Deputy Chief Minister said that Congress has emerged as the biggest loser in the DDC elections and it is shame for a party which has ruled the country for the past over 70 years. "Congress ruled the erstwhile state for several years but its misdeeds whilst being in power ensured that it failed to win chairpersonship of even a single DDC in entire Jammu and Kashmir. The only consolation they had was when their candidates became vice chairpersons of councils in Kishtwar and Rajouri district, that too with the support of National Conference," said Gupta, taking a jibe at Congress. "While the Congress didn't have major stakes in Kashmir, it got severe drubbing at the hands of BJP in Jammu region, which once used to be strong citadel of the party. Congress had been in power in coalition with PDP and National Conference for 12 consecutive years from 2002 to 2014 but it didn't get numbers to have its chairperson even in one DDC," Gupta said. The former Deputy Chief Minister said that the BJP has focused on implementing the pro-people policies for Jammu and Kashmir and this is the reason why it has emerged as the single largest party of the Union Territory in the DDC elections. He asked people to strengthen the hands of PM Narendra Modi and BJP for the overall development of Jammu and Kashmir. |
