Flights to operate at Jammu Airport from 0600 to 1300 hours from Mar 10 | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Feb 20: While the proposed complete closure of Jammu Airport from March 6 to 20 has been withdrawn, the Airport Authority of India and Indian Air Force after holding deliberations have decided that the airport will remain available for flight operations but from 0600 hours to 1300 hours from March 10. 'During a meeting held between IAF and AAI (Member Operations and team) on Friday, regarding Jammu airport closure, after detailed deliberations, it has been evolved that now the Jammu airport will be available for operations from 0600-1300 hours with last fight departure at 1250 hours during March 10 to April 19,' official sources here said. The file slots are accordingly being revised for ongoing W 208 S-21 season they said and added that during S-21 season from April 20, the Jammu airport will be available for operations as per earlier normal watch hours. According to sources, during a meeting held on February 18 and chaired by the Defence Secretary in the National capital to discuss closure of Jammu airport for runway resurfacing work, it was decided that the complete closure of the airport will cause only inconvenience to the common public but also a disruption in the efforts towards the sustained connectivity of UT of J&K with rest of India. Hence, all available options needed to be explored. It was suggested in the meeting that the work could be deferred by some duration to reap the benefits of longer daylight hours and higher temperatures. Compressing operational hours for flight clearances at the airport by AAI also emerged as one of the options that could be explored. 'After discussions, it was decided that a joint committee comprising reps from IAF, MES and AAI will work out a feasible and mutually acceptable plan which could avoid complete closure of the airport to the extent possible and submit their recommendations within a week,' they added. The meeting was attended by the senior ranked officers and representatives of Indian Air Force and the Airport Authority of India. |
