Early Times Report

SRINAGAR, Feb 24: The Boulevard Road and other areas located along the banks of world famous Dal Lake may be no construction green belt areas, but as they say that rules are for fools and those can be tampered with according to the convenience of the 'influential'.
Early Times has learnt from sources that the process for carrying out a construction by the administration has already begun on the Boulevard Road. The construction is coming up on a plot of land visible from both the Boulevard Road as well as the Gupkar Road housing official residences of various mainstream leaders.
"The huge plot of land consisting of seven Kanals has been identified by the administration for carrying out the construction. The construction would consist of a house along with other hutments. The same would be used as accommodation for a top notch constitutional authority of the union territory of Jammu & Kashmir," said sources.
Sources said that dozens of trees that were present in the huge plot of land have already been felled by the concerned authorities and decks have been cleared for the construction. They said that since the plot of land falls under state land category the administration has gone ahead with the construction process.
"JCBs have been pressed into service in order to level the soil at the plot of land and this would be followed by the plinth work. Going by the developments taking place it would not take a long time for the government to complete the construction work at the site. Rules have been violated and they would be trampled over in the days to come as well," said sources.
Sources said that all the constructions are banned in the entire Boulevard Road and the whole stretch has been classified as green belt area. They said that despite all this the construction is being carried out by the government agencies with the common masses made to suffer for no fault of theirs.
Sources said that people have been directed to maintain status quo on the Boulevard Road and all the areas falling close to the Dal Lake. They said that the same parameters have been applied to the people who are living in the vicinity of other water bodies in the Kashmir valley. The sources said that common people can neither add a brick to their existing construction nor bang a nail in the existing walls.
