Doctors under scanner for financial deals with ‘tainted’ hospital
3/7/2021 11:52:45 PM

Early Times Report

Jammu, Mar 7: Some of the doctors working in Kashmir, especially those in government sector, have come under the scanner for alleged financial irregularities for having served at “tainted” private hospital in Srinagar.
On February 19, the Income Tax Department raided the house of the private hospital owner in Srinagar to discover the shocking details of his business ventures.
A 14-member team headed by deputy director income tax department Robin Bansal had carried out the raids.
As per the sources, financial irregularities of around Rs 100 crore have been suspected about the businessman and his aides.
Sources said during the raids the IT sleuths found that the doctors who had been serving at the hospital were not being given payments in a transparent manner.
“Several doctors from government hospitals had also been doing part time job at the hospital but the prima facie suggests that the financial deals were not being done in a legitimate manner,” said a source privy to the development.
Sources said over the last few years since the establishment of the private hospital, there was no proper record of how much money was paid to the visiting doctors, mainly for surgeries they would perform.
It is for the first time since the abrogation of the special status of Jammu and Kashmir, that doctors have come under scanner of the IT sleuths for alleged financial irregularities.
Sources said during the raids at the residence of the hospital owner and his aides, the Rs 82.75 lakh cash and jewelry and bullion worth Rs 35.70 lakh were seized as the persons concerned were unable to explain the source.
The IT department has also “sealed” a bank locker.
Despite repeated attempts the owner of the said hospital was not available for comments.
