DODA, Mar 10: As a part of observing, "World Glaucoma Week", an awareness session was today organized by Block Medical Officer Ghat, Dr Saleem Ahmed, here at Public Health Centre Ghat. During the awareness session, the BMO made patients, staff of health department, besides the local populace aware about glaucoma and screened scores of patients on the occasion. Dr Saleem Ahmed said that glaucoma is the second most leading cause of blindness in the world as it affects the optic nerve which is a vital link between the eyes and brain. Further, the BMO said that health department is observing World Galucoma Week at every health institution with the aim to make the people aware about the disease, its symptoms, types and treatment. World Glaucoma Week is a global initiative of the World Glaucoma Association (WGA) observed to raise awareness on glaucoma. Through a series of engaging worldwide activities, the patients, eye-care providers, health officials and the general public are invited to contribute to sight preservation. The goal is to alert everyone to have regular eye (and optic nerve) checks in order to detect glaucoma as early as possible. |
