Forest Dept organizes Green Drive in collaboration with GDC Doda | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Mar 19: A “Green Drive’ was conducted by the Forest Department in the premises of Government Degree College (GDC) Doda. The event began with the plantation of Chinar saplings by Dr. Shafqat Hussain Rafiqi Principal, Government Degree College, Doda, Sat Paul, Conservator of Forests, Chenab Circle and Navneet Singh, DFO, Doda. Each faculty member of the college along with students actively participated in this drive and around 50 saplings of Deodar and Cypress were planted in botanical garden of the college. This plantation drive is part of the seasonal plantation carried out by the forest department during the months beginning from November, 2020 till March, 2021. The Conservator of Forests impressed upon the role of students as green warriors and urgent need of saving the open treasure of the Chenab. The heads of department of Botany and Environmental Sciences namely Dr. Tasir Sharief and Dr. Sumit Kotwal, respectively located the sites for plantation in the college campus by close co-operation with the concerned staff of the forest department. Moreover, the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed by the Departments of Botany, Environmental Sciences and Zoology with Conservator of Forests, Chenab circle for collaborative research, skill-based education and allied services. Dr. Aijaz A. Wani, HoD Zoology discussed the modalities for future wildlife projects with concerned wings of forest department. The students will be greatly benefitted by this joint initiative of the college and forest department for providing hands on training. The MoU is mainly aimed at promoting collaborative research and training in the Chenab region. The Principal, GDC Doda appreciated the Conservator of Forests for this noble initiative by presenting a Memento. The conservator of forests assured all possible co-operation in the future endeavors of the departments of Botany, Environmental Sciences and Zoology. The event was managed by faculty members namely Purnima Manhas, Akrity Parihar, Younus Rashid, Imteyaz Ahmed and Dr. Manish Thakur. The forest guards and range officers of the forest department also greatly helped the students and staff in the plantation drive.
