Early Times Report
Srinagar, Mar 19: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha is likely to meet top central ministers in New Dehli to brief them on security and financial aspects of the situation in Jammu and Kashmir. Sinha is likely to stay in the Union capital till Sunday. Sources said that Lieutenant Governor could discuss the overall developments with the senior functioners of the central government. “LG who Friday visited Gujrat would stay in Delhi for a couple of days wherein he will also discuss the security situation with the Central Ministers and other functionaries," sources told early times. Official sources told Early Times that Sinha’s visit comes two days after the 1, 08,621 crore budget of Jammu and Kashmir was tabled in the Parliament by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman. In absence of the Legislature in the Union territory of Jammu and Kashmir, its budget was tabled on Wednesday and passed in the Parliament. The Rs 1,08,621 crore budget was tabled with a provision of ₹200 crore for recently constituted 20 District Development Councils (DDCs) and ₹71.25 crore for 285 Block Development Councils (BDCs) as development fund. Sources said that Lieutenant Governor could also meet some Central Ministers to discuss the security situation in Jammu and Kashmir, both in the hinterland as well as the Line of Control (LoC). Sources in the government said Manoj Sinha has described the 1, 08,621 crore budget as “quite significant”, which will lead to massive infrastructure development with new projects coming up. Jammu and Kashmir’s annual budget has seen a steep hike during the past three years. In 2019-20, J&K had 88,911 crore worth budget which went up to Rs one lakh crore for 2020-21. Regarding the current financial year of 2020-21, sources said because of the financial discipline maintained by the Finance Department in Jammu and Kashmir, there was no major financial crunch. “There has been full cooperation of the Union Home and Finance Ministries to the Jammu and Kashmir Government,” sources said. It is to mention here that LG Manoj Sinha thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman for “yet another historic budget with emphasis on the growth and development of Jammu and Kashmir.” He recently said that the government was committed to investing more money in new and accelerated infrastructure projects, supporting new investments and increasing business landscape through incentives in new industrial schemes. |
