GDC Vijaypur holds plantation drive | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Mar 19: NSS Unit of Government Degree College (GDC) Vijaypur observed ‘Plantation Drive’ on the occasion of “International Day of Forests”. “International Day of Forests” is observed on 21st March globally. International Day of Forests highlights the importance of Forests in our day to day life. To commemorate the occasion, GDC Vijaypur organized a plantation drive in which College Staff and students participated with great zeal, enthusiasm and fervor. The theme of the International day of Forests for 2021 is “Forest restoration: a path to recovery and well-being”. The initiative was taken on the call of Prime Minister and further recommended by the Ministry of Culture to plant at least 5 (five) trees either in the office campus or where ever it is possible, to ensure a clean and healthy environment of the country. The plantation drive was an attempt to acquaint the students and staff to contribute in preserving and promoting the environment. Dr Sangeeta Sudan, Principal of the College thanked and appreciated the efforts of the students and the organizers for making the event successful. She exhorted that planting trees is one of the few things we can do to invest for the future generations. The NSS Volunteers were assigned as caretaker of one plant each wherein they will look after the plants regularly thereby ensuring their survival. The Staff members of the College encouraged the students to pay attention towards the environment crisis that the world is facing and pointed out how planting trees can be a small step towards protecting the environment. The whole event was coordinated by Dr Sunil Kumar Mangoch (NSS PO). The staff members who planted and adopted the plants were Dr. Kuldeep Singh, Dr. Shittal Sharma, Prof. Anil Bhagat, Prof. Poonam Kundan, Shivani, Vikas Malmotra and Anil Kumar.
