DB fixes time period for removal of encroachments | 2100 Kanal Forest land Encroached | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Mar 19: In the much publicized PIL regarding eviction of encroachers from Poonch forest Land, a division bench of High Court comprising Chief Justice Pankaj Mithal and Justice Sindhu Sharma directed Deputy Advocate General, appearing for the respondents to seek fresh instructions and to file further status report clearly stating the time period within which most of the encroachments would be removed by the Forest Department. The bench observed that it is expected that the Forest Department would also pinpoint the officers who were responsible for such encroachments so that necessary action may be initiated against them. It said that Deputy AG may also obtain instructions in regard to 409 kanals of land which has been got vacated from the encroachers and if necessary submit documents as directed vide order dated 4-3-2020. The bench observed that it is alleged that about 2100 kanals of forest land in the said area has been encroached upon. P. N. Bhat, counsel for the petitioner disputed the factum of clearing of even 409 kanals of land. The bench said that one of the orders dated 17-7-2019 reveals that there are about 127 encroachers on the forest land and the status report so far filed indicates that only 409 kanals of forest land has been got cleared from encroachers. |
