Early Times Report

Jammu, Apr 2: After filling supplementary charge-sheet against youth wing president of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) Wahid Parra, intelligence agencies are now going through all appointments made by the jailed leader during his tenure as secretary J&K Sports Council.
Reliable sources said that during his tenure as secretary J&K Sports Council, Parra had made a large number of backdoor appointments. “Credentials of all those who were appointed would be checked by the intelligence agencies”, sources said and revealed that there was possibility that some youth with mysterious character were adjusted in the Sports Council in the name of ‘channelizing’ energy of talented youth.
Sources said that when Parra was at the helm of the affairs of the Sports Council, the then Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti had given him free hand to take all important decisions related to the body. “Not only appointments made by Parra would be verified but funds utilized during that period would be rechecked”.
Sources said that authorities were preparing lists of all those who were appointed during Parra’s tenure.
Furthermore intelligence agencies are also verifying credentials of all youth who were provided all types of help during that period in the name of exploring the potential of talented youth.
The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has filed charge sheet against Parra and two others in a terror funding case on March 22.
The NIA has alleged that Parra paid Rs 5 crore to the son-in-law of hard-line Hurriyat Conference leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani for keeping Kashmir in turmoil after the death of Hizbul Mujahideen’s poster boy Burhan Wani in 2016.
NIA has accused Parra, who was arrested last November, of being involved with banned terrorist groups like Hizbul Mujahideen and Lashkar-e-Taiba.
The NIA alleged that after the death of Wani, who was killed in an encounter with the Army in July 2016, Parra got in touch with Altaf Ahmad Shah, alias Altaf Fantoosh, and asked him to ensure that the Valley was kept on the boil with widespread unrest and stone pelting.
