JAMMU, Apr 9: In order to promote the poetic acumen of students, the Language Club of the college invited young poets to recite their original compositions in Dogri, Hindi, English, Urdu and Kashmiri. The multilingual Poetry Competition was held in order to promote the five official languages of J&K (UT). The programme was convened by Prof Shalini Rana from the Department of English of GCOE Jammu. Overall eighteen young poets participated in the poetry competition. The poets expressed their gratitude to the organizers for giving them a chance to express their pent up emotions. The themes of the poems ranged from impact of corona, mental health, feminism, emotions, sacrifice, patriotism, women empowerment, dowry, political scenario, social issues and challenges of life etc. All poems were original compositions of the students. In the concluding session Prof (Dr) Kulwinder Kour, Principal of the College , lauded the efforts of the students. She emphasized upon the importance of such events because poetry helps in positive social and emotional development of youngsters. She encouraged the students to keep writing poems and develop the sense of aesthetics. The judges of the program were Prof C L Shivgotra, Prof Rubina and Prof Shalini Rana. Later in the programme Prof Shivgotra, Dr Anuradha Seth, Dr Jyoti Parihar and Prof Vinay Lata also recited their original compositions. The faculty members who were present on the occasion were Prof Seema Sharma, Prof K K Magotra, Prof Vinay Lata, Prof Rubina, Prof Deep K. Bangotra, Prof Sarita Dogra and Dr Shubhra Jamwal . The participants who won the top positions were Ravinder Rao and Sapna Devi(1st). Richa Anand and Sakshi Sambyal won second positions while Tania Jasrotia and Rumeeta bagged the third place.
