Early Times Report SRINAGAR, Apr 9: As the administration changed the weekly maintenance day of the national highway from Friday to Wednesday, one-way Light Motor Vehicles (LMVs) traffic will ply from Srinagar to Jammu today, a traffic police official said. Only stranded Heavy Motor Vehicles (HMVs) between Nashree and Ramban will be allowed to move towards Srinagar, he told UNI. He said no traffic will be allowed from Jammu or Srinagar on Wednesday for maintenance and repair of the highway, the only road connecting Kashmir valley with the rest of the country. Earlier, no traffic was being allowed on the highway on Friday for weekly maintenance, he said. Today LMV traffic will be allowed from Srinagar to Jammu and no vehicle will be allowed from the opposite direction. However, the vehicles had to cross Zig Qazigund, gate of Kashmir, between 0800 hrs to 1200 hrs, he said adding no vehicle will be allowed after cut off timing. Only HMVs stranded between Nashree to Ramban will be allowed to move towards Srinagar, he said. Security forces are advised not to ply against the traffic advisory in view of traffic congestion on the highway, he said adding they may ply from Jammu to Srinagar. Meanwhile, the 86-km-long historic Mughal road, connecting Shopian in south Kashmir with Rajouri and Poonch in Jammu region and Anantnag-Kishtwar remained closed due to accumulation of snow. However, massive snow clearance operation was going on from both sides. The National highway, the only road linking Union Territory (UT) of Ladakh with Kashmir valley also remained shut due to accumulation of snow and avalanches.
