Shreya represents India In World Championships | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Apr 12: An ace fencer and a class 11th student of Vidya Mandir classes, Jammu Shreya Gupta has participated in the recently concluded Junior and Cadet World Fencing championships held at Cairo, Egypt w.e.f 3rd April 2021 to 11th April. She qualified for the junior category in the above said tournament by securing an individual bronze medal in junior national fencing championship held at Rudarpur whereas she booked a place in Cadet Category by winning a Gold medal in last year national championship. As per Shreya, it was a great experience and honour to participate and compete with top fencers around the glove. Pertinent to add here that she got maximum points for India in junior team sabre category against their opponents Brazil. Shreya contemplates about better coaching facilities specially foreign coaches and an improved infrastructure for Indian fencers to bridge the huge gap between them and their counterparts from Europe, USA, Russia , Ukraine etc. Shreya gupta at a young age has already won a medal in commonwealth championship and a number of medals at National level. She is a recipient of State award, Sher-e-Kashmir sports award and S.Rangil Singh award for excellence in sports. She is extremely thankful to Secretary, J&K Sports Council, Mrs Nuzhut Gull for her encouragement and support. Meanwhile, convenor of Adhoc committee of J&K Amateur Fencing Association Sh. Rashid Ahmed Choudhry has congratulated Shreya and wished her best for the future. |
