Single span bridge puts people of Ajote in difficulty | Lack of planning by PWD Poonch wastes public money | | RAJESH TANDON
EARLY TIMES REPORT
POONCH, Apr 16: The lack of planning on the part of the Public Works Department (PWD) in construction of a bridge in Ajote area of Poonch district has not only caused huge loss to the public exchequer but put the people in great difficulty. Despite requirement of double span bridge the PWD Poonch got executed single span bridge in Ajote area, which has virtually created problem for residential areas connected through this bridge. “The bridge which has nearly 500 metrers of length was executed by Jammu and Kashmir Project Construction Corporation (JKPCC). It is very shocking that while conducting a survey before the execution of the bridge, the officials didn’t consider the importance, requirement of the people. Single span bridge has not been serving the purpose and moreover people had to face hardship while crossing over half a kilometre long bridge,” the local residents alleged. Although this bridge connects to the border area Chakan-da- Bagh, which is very important from a strategic point of view but yet the department took this matter lightly and constructed a single span. The vehicles coming from one end of the bridge wait for a long time for their turn and incase of any casualty due to cross border firing, the victims are forced to wait for longer durations as the bridge gets choked due to its single span. “We demand inquiry against the concerned department for not applying their mind before execution of such an important bridge and wasting public money,” said members of Samaj Sewa Society, Jugal Kishore Sharma and Amit Gupta. When Early Times contacted Executive Engineer PWD Poonch, he said that the matter of widening of this bridge has been raised before concerned DC, who further took up this matter with the LG so that this single span bridge could be widened. |
