Refugees/DPs deprived of full relief package: Ravinder Sharma
4/18/2021 11:39:57 PM

EARLY TIMES REPORT

JAMMU, Apr 18: Former Congress MLC and a senior refugee leader Ravinder Sharma has hit out at the BJP government for the denial of the promised amount of relief package of Rs 30 lakh per family, while thousands of applicants are still waiting for the disbursement of the meager amount of the relief package announced in 2015.
In a statement after series of interactions with the representatives of DPs in Sunderbani-Nowshera area during past five days, senior Congress leader lambasted the BJP government at the centre for the delay in the disbursement of the meager amount of ex-gratia to thousands of eligible applicants, even after six years of its announcement besides the denial of the committed amount of thirty lakhs per family, recommended by the Joint Parliamentary Committee and then State government in 2014.
Sharma questioned the silence of the top BJP leadership of J&K on the issues, who were making commitments every now and then to the refugees/DPs before 2014 elections, to provide more than the recommended amount of Rs 30 lakhs to each family.
He said BJP has cheated the displaced community as each original family has split into atleast five to six families and practically each family got only fifty thousands to less than one lakh. This is a cruel joke with the displaced people who were totally uprooted from the native places and lost several of their family members during 1947 holocaust.
Former MLC, who was the main author of the package on behalf of the party and the displaced community, expressed dismay that the package finally recommended by the then coalition government, in the state, after intervention by the UPA government at the centre, has not been fully sanctioned by the Modi government at the centre, when the BJP proclaims to be the great well wisher of the displaced Hindu people who had to undergo brutalities for their love to the mother land.
Lauding the efforts of different refugees/DPs organizations for their continued struggle for over seven decades to raise the genuine issues of the community, Sharma regretted that the government has forgotten the communication and appealed to them to gear up for a decisive battle for the left out genuine issues of the community, while extending full support in this regard.
