As authorities seal borders, touts become active for illegal transportation of people | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Apr 18: Even as authorities have nabbed some persons involved in illegally transporting people from Madhopur to Lakhanpur, some touts were still active to facilitate sneaking of people into J&K from Punjab without testing and following Covid protocols. Reliable sources said that these touts are working under the nose of authorities in the guise of laborers working in both Punjab and J&K. Sources said that after authorities imposed strictly restrictions on the movement of travelers without Corona test, these touts become active to make money through illegal means by transporting outsider to Jammu and Kashmir via Lakhanpur in complete violation of COVID-19 protocol. Sources said that gangs of touts were operating in Madhopur area of Pathankot district and was misleading and creating fear among outside travelers with regard to their entry into the Union Territory under COVID-19 protocol. As Lakhanpur was the only surface link to Jammu and Kashmir, there used to be a rush of people coming to the UT from outside. Taking advantage of the situation, some people found it a lucrative business to make money by transporting people to Jammu and Kashmir. In view of a spike in the Covid cases, authorities have decided on Monday to seal the borders of the union territory with Punjab and Himachal Pradesh to check the spread of the virus. As per the government, inter-district vehicular movement has been strictly restricted, vehicles carrying essential supplies will move normally. |
