DAJ seeks separate residential facilities for doctors on COVID duty | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Apr 18: Amid sudden surge in COVID-19 cases during the second wave of the pandemic, the Doctors in Jammu have demanded appropriate residential facilities within or around the hospital premises which would be in the better interest of the doctors as well as the society at large. In a statement issued here today, Dr Balvinder Singh, President Doctors Association Jammu (DAJ), said that the doctors are on the forefront in the war against the deadly Corona virus treating the patients despite all odds and in such a situation they constitute the most vulnerable section so far as Corona infection is concerned. He said that by returning to their homes after duly discharging duties their families as well as those who come in their contact could be at immense risk of infection and as such the doctors despite taking all the requisite precautions could unintentionally become cause of spread of the deadly virus. The DAJ President said that the gravity of the existing situations demands that all the doctors especially those on Covid duties be provided separate accommodation like last year when the COVID-19 spread was intense during the first wave. He saiddoctor’s returning to their respective homes or hostels could prove disastrous for others. He said that it is a matter of great concern that needs to be addressed with utmost urgency. Moreover, there is a need to prepare duty roster so that 50 percent of the staff is spared for back-up in case someone amongst them gets infected with Covid-19 thus hampering prospering functioning of hospitals, he asserted. Dr Manjeet Singh, General Secretary DAJ asked the administration to ensure that after ten days of Covid duty every such doctor should be sent for ten days’ quarantine. He appealed to the Lt Governor Manoj Sinha to recruit more doctors in view of the second wave of Covid-19 being more dangerous. He also made a fervent appeal to the public at large to cooperatefully in the ongoing crisis situation by minimizing Hospital visits and come to the hospital only in case of emergency. He advised the people to avail the facility of teleconsultation provided by doctors of Jammu and Kashmir free of cost for minor alignments. |
