Leh emerges as new Covid hotspot | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Apr 23: With a surge in positive cases during the last one week in the Union Territory of Ladakh, Leh is emerging as Covid hotspot with the influx of tourists and large number of labourers, being transported by contractors, to this mountainous region, for completion of developmental projects. As of now Leh recorded 95 percent of total active positive cases in Ladakh. Amid surge in positive cases, chairman, District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), Leh, Shrikant Suse, convened an emergent meeting to review the implementation of Covid standard operating procedures (SOPs) with the members of Covid Enforcement squads. He impressed upon the concerned officials and members to take strict legal actions against the people failing to adhere to the Covid-19 protocols. He exhorted them to conduct extensive groundwork and share weekly reports. He also directed the concerned officials to ensure that all indoor gatherings outside should be limited to 25 persons or 50% of the hall capacity, whichever is less. Similarly, the limit is 50 persons or 50 % capacity of the space with social distancing, whichever is less, in open spaces. It is widely believed influx of labourers from different parts of the country has contributed a surge in positive cases. During the last one week, Leh authorities have been taken all preventive measures to ensure 100 percent testing of all travellers. Meanwhile Chief Executive Councilor (CEC) Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC) Leh, Tashi Gyalson convened an emergent meeting to review Covid-19 situation in Leh. It was observed in the meeting that the new wave was infecting youth, pediatric population in the region.
