Complaint lodged for assaulting patient’s kin by doctor
5/22/2021 12:40:42 AM

Early Times Report

Jammu, May 21: It is not the first incident which has put doctors in the dock. Utter commercialism, bad behavior with patients and attendants was one of the reasons behind that eroded the image of doctors and health institutes in this country. India’s Health Minister is on record when he urged the medical practitioners to show compassion and kindness while treating patients, adding that the high respect held by people for doctors is getting ‘eroded’ due to increasing complaints of rude behaviour. A recent incident comes to fore, where an attendant of a female patient has lodged a complaint on Thursday at Police Station, Gandhi Nagar and got his statement recorded accusing Dr. Arun Kumar Sharma of physical assault and pushing out the attendant of the patient at his private clinic on mere asking few queries regarding few tests and medicines that allegedly irritated the doctor.
The complainant alleged that he was manhandled and physically assaulted by the doctor in pursuance to his queries on his prescription of various lab tests and medicines to the Doctor regarding the patient on May 20, 2021 at his private clinic namely Apollo Gastroenterology and Gynae Clinic, Gandhi Nagar, Jammu.
The victim, who is a practicing lawyer said that he had some queries regarding the diagnosis of the patient’s conditions by the doctor. But on being probed, the doctor got irritated and punched on complainant’s chest with both his hands in the waiting room area. According to the complainant when Doctor was reminded of his unbecoming acts and complainant told he that he was a lawyer, the doctor revert back, “go away and do whatever you can.”
The complainant said that he was in shock and could not react as he was accompanied by his patient wife and mother. “I reported the matter to police by a written complaint against the doctor so let the law take its due course. The complaint was registered at Gandhi Nagar, Model Police Station on May 20, 2021 right after the incident at around 4 pm.
The complainant informed that all he wanted was for the doctor to apologize, but the doctor blatantly refused at the police station, where he appeared today with his whole team of 4 – 5 staffers.
Consequently, the complainant today recorded his statement under relevant sections of the CrPC. The Doctor refused to apologize and sought time to record his statement later.
A staffer Sumit Prabhakar on behalf the Dr. Arun Sharma refuted the claim the charge by saying, ‘He was a fake fellow and cannot prove his charge.. For Society Doctor nowadays is an easy target.., come to doctor, get the motive served and then leave abusing and defaming, ...... we have not invited anybody to come... one comes at his own choice..... We do not want to discuss this anymore.”
