Farmers being looted at highly low rates than MSP for wheat: JKPCC
Congress writes to LG
5/22/2021 11:47:52 PM
Early Times Report

Jammu, May 22: Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress committee has sought attention of LG Manoj Sinha towards problem of the farmers who are being cheated and looted in broad day light .
The government announced Rs 1925/-,per quintal minimum support price (MSP) of wheat this year, which means that the farmers should get this minimum or lowest rate of per quintal wheat but the farmer is being forced to sell his wheat produce at Rs 1500 /- per quintal in the absence of any procurement mandi in several Districts like Rajouri.
This is very unfortunate and makes it totally irrelevant to fix MSP for crops when the government has failed to set up a single procurement centre (Mandi) in various Districts of wheat producing Jammu province.
Last time also, during the maize crop, the farmers were compelled to sell the maize produce@ Rs1100/-per quintal against the government price (MSP) fixed at Rs 1800/-per quintal, as no procurement centre (Mandi) was set up by the government in several Districts like Rajouri and Poonch which is high maize producing belt.
Is it not a fraud and cheating with the farmers who are being looted broad day light by the middlemen at very low rates and the farmers are helpless to sell their produce at much cheaper rates due to lack of procurement centres. Can a farmer from Rajouri, Nowshera, Jhanger, Sunderbani, Kalakote take his wheat (produce) to sell in the mandies set up at Samba or Kathua.
Congress has thus sought LG Manoj Sinha’s intervention in the issue so that problems of the farmers could be addressed.
