Early Times Report

Srinagar, May 22: Former J&K Chief Minister and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti on Saturday claimed that seven members of District Development Council (DDC) have offered to resign after they were confined at a place in the name of security since they won the elections. However, an official spokesman said Saturday evening that chairman and other members of the DDC Badgam in the central Kashmir called on Advisor to Lt Governor Baseer Ahmad Khan and raised several issues of public importance for redressal. Mehbooba taking to micro blogging site Twitter, said “ Detaining DDC members from Budgam since 7 months in the name of security defeats the purpose of their election. Held against their will, administration has also prevented them from touring their constituencies. They are so fed up that they have offered to resign”. She also posted a video of DDC members on her twitter handle in which they were heard saying they remained confined in a hotel for the past seven months. We cannot meet our family members and those who have elected us, they said adding they have decided to resign if they were not allowed to meet their people. An official statement issued Saturday evening said DDC chairman, DDC, Budgam and other DDC members today called on Khan and raised several issues of public importance for redressal.
Chairman along with the DDC members came up with a memorandum and highlighted several important issues concerning his area including roads, healthcare system, accommodation, contingency fund and other matters relating to their respective areas. Chairman requested the Advisor to take necessary steps towards an early redressal of issues raised by them. Advisor assured the Chairman that all genuine issues raised by them will be considered and resolved on priority.
