Construction of 500-bedded COVID Hospital on at war-footing basis | ‘Govt can do anything if it wishes so' | | Arun Singh

Jammu, May 23: After witnessing a consistent surge in the number of COVID-19 cases over the last one month, the Central Government has swung into action and has started construction of 500-bedded temporary COVID-19 Hospital in collaboration with Defence Research Development Organisation (DRDO), the work for which is going on war footing basis. The construction work started just a few weeks ago at Bhagwati Nagar here and is likely to be completed in next few days. The upcoming hospital will be equipped with isolation beds having oxygen support and over 100 fully equipped ICU beds. Several separate structures have been raised at the proposed site and the work on providing internal electricity is going on. The construction work is in its final stage, which is going on 24x7 and is likely to be completed within a few days and will be opened for COVID patients. The main road which connects to this site has been macadamised. Even roads carved out within the hospital premises have been macadamised and some left out work is also going on continuously and at its final stage. A separate powerhouse has been established to provide continuous power to this hospital. Hundreds of skilled and unskilled workers have been working round the clock to complete it. The structures have been equipped with a fully air conditioner facility, drinking water connections, oxygen connections etc. Besides, the recruitment process for the staff has been started by the Government Medical College administration. As many as 313 new posts for engagement on contractual basis for the upcoming 500-bedded temporary Covid Hospital which include Medical Officers, Nursing Supervisors, Junior Staff Nurses, Pharmacists, Lab Technicians and X-Ray Technicians. |
