Perform or perish! LG Sinha tells officials on Covid-19 management | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, May 23: Speaking tough for the cause of good governance, Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha has asked the official machinery to further intensify Covid control measures in Jammu and Kashmir or be ready to face music. Sources said on May 21, during a series of meetings with top bureaucrats, District Development Commissioners and their counterparts from police, Sinha reiterated his commitment as a no nonsense man and that no laxity on the part of any officials will be tolerated. Sources said Sinha told the meeting that officials should bear in mind that in times of such crises they are not on any 9:00 to 5:00 job but that they should be available round the clock to gear up facilities being provided to Covid affected in Jammu and Kashmir. Sources said Sinha was in no mood to listen to any excuses but that there was a pin drop silence as he spoke. Sources said Sinha told the officials that each district would have to compete with each other in a bid to serve the people even better. A technocrat by qualification, Sinha has put a scale of ten on parameters including vaccination, services at hospitals and related facilities being provided to the people, to monitor the performance of the officials. Sources said a special team has been tasked to monitor the performance of each district on the scale of ten. Sources said a similar monitoring has also been started for the heads of the departments of various government offices. Sources said Sinha was upset with the sluggish vaccination and that he conveyed the same to the meeting adding that he wants “results and no excuses.” Sinha said apart from cities and towns, there was a need to focus equally on remote areas. For this, the Lt Governor set timelines for establishment of 5-bedded Covid Care Centres at panchayat level across J&K. “We are decentralizing the Covid management, which is essential for effective and efficient public health system. Focus on strengthening primary health care in rural areas. There is a need to increase the availability and accessibility of healthcare support system in far flung areas,” the Lt Governor said. Those who attended the meetings included Rajeev Rai Bhatnagar, Advisor to LG; BVR Subrahmanyam, Chief Secretary; Dilbag Singh, DGP; Arun Kumar Mehta, Financial Commissioner, Finance Department; Shaleen Kabra and Principal Secretary to the Government, Home Department; Bipul Pathak. |
