Primarily education in India is mainly job oriented and parents continuously strive hard to have the quality education for better earning and comfortable living of their children. Setting aside authoritative narrative of administrators and expert views of educationists, our existing education policy, particularly under prevailing peculiar scenario, urgently require much needed review that will real impact on the ground, mainly to mitigate the mental agony and financial problem of parents. With the prevailing setup, class XII standard of our education system assume utmost importance, for the simple reason that it decides the fate and career option of our student community, particularly for the students who are aspiring for technical studies. Right from the elementary education, parents put in their best, at all levels including their serious devotion, time investment, financial support leaving no stone unturned in order to give their best amidst real physical and tough mental hard work put in by their children to come up to their expectations. Fact remains that tuitions in addition to routine schooling and now the new form of on line system of education have further aggravated not only the financial and mental woes of parents but have also heavily burdened their children to perform to their fullest and deliver the best. Under all such ongoing inevitable hic cups, the prevailing COVID-19 pandemic has complicated our present day education scenario. Now continuing for more than one year, this pandemic has drastically overloaded our children, the effect that is only observed by their parents. Their all time confinement to digital modes of studies, not undertaking any physical activities or limited association with their mates have not only limited their exposure to outside world, disturbed them physically and challenged them mentally but also damaged their teaching – learning capabilities….. the most worry some aspect for their parents. So with these prolong peculiar circumstances, the dilemma of conducting their examination, either in terms of its cancellation or its postponement by the government, only add to the worries of students and complicate the difficulties for parents too. Confusion arising out of such delay and this indecisiveness on the part of administration not only disturb the focused approach of students for their testing abilities but also lose the track of their studies and shake their faith in the system besides putting the seriousness of their parents in fix. Parents who are the worst hit, had been managing the stressful days of their wards at home with great difficulty, now apprehend the risk to their lives also due to ongoing second wave of COVID-19 pandemic, which is more dangerous for children. Parents firmly apprehend and strongly advocate that exposing their wards to the outside environment at this stage of pandemic will simply put them at high degree of risk to Coronavirus infection. Even factually parents themselves are still managing their safety with single dose of vaccine taken so far. From the past history and lessons drawn out of causalities, the high risk of prevailing pandemic is more directed towards children and their voluntary exposure in a large gathering at longer time, especially during examination, at this crucial stage will benefit none. Presently the fate of about 1.5 million students of our country likely to appear for class XII examination, is at stake due to postponement or cancellation of their examination, which is a huge number and serious issue for all stakeholders. It turns out to be the real worry for students, immense difficult time for parents and strong pressure for administration. Parents, who also face the testing time, are most confused between the ambiguity of not wasting the precious time of their wards and at the same time to have their risk free safety while writing their examination. The ongoing indecisiveness of the government to hold the examination on time by not ensuring fool proof safety of students is the only matter of serious concern for the parents. In the meantime, even single dose of much needed vaccine that can be given especially to class XII students mainly for the purpose of taking their examination, as already given in case of frontline healthcare workers, may also generate some solace to the affected parents. Further, main city wise limited examination centres equipped with all requisite care taking facilities under COVID-19 SOP, can also be considered by the government as an option as against the cancellation of examination. But safety of every student need to be given utmost priority, be it at the cost of cancellation of such examination, shall remain the matter of concern for every parent, who has already suffered heavily in terms of time and financial liability besides constant mental agony. Government of the day, both state and central government, need to introspect the reasons of this unavoidable delay in holding such important examination on time, which got further complicated due to their indecisiveness till date. Even at this stage also, government must not shrunk to cancel the examination considering the safety of student community as paramount importance under the prevailing second wave of COVID-19 pandemic mostly affecting children. |
