5 weeks on, RTO Kathua remains headless | Govt yet to appoint new officer | | Early Times Report
Jammu, May 27: The Regional Transport Office (RTO) Kathua has been headless for the last over five weeks since the transfer of the former officer, causing pendency of cases as well as hurdles in the routine functioning of the institution. A few days back the charge of the office was given to Assistant Regional Transport Officer (ARTO) but the pendency created due to the RTO post remaining vacant for over one month has piled up the cases. The Regional Transport Officer Kathua Raj Kumar Thappa was transferred on April 18 and was posted as Additional Secretary to Government Labour and Transport Department. “Given the vacant post for over one month, several cases of vehicle registration, renewal of documents besides other routine works have got hampered during the last one month. The RTO is the head of the office and signing authority on most of the documents in his absence cases piled up”, sources said, adding that the RTO catered to the entire population of Kathua district. "It almost takes one whole day for the people from far flung areas to reach the RTO office at Lakhanpur but they have been returning empty handed,” a local said. “Due to Covid-19 restrictions, though new vehicles have not been sold but those which were sold earlier or those people who had submitted documents for renewal of licenses, registration of vehicles and for change of registration in case of old vehicles, their cases are pending”, sources said, adding that it was still unclear as why the government didn’t appoint the new RTO. Assistant Regional Transport Officer (ARTO) Kathua Neeraj Sharma said that he was given the charge of the office only a few days back and maximum cases have been cleared. “Few cases are still pending, which will be cleared within the next few days”, Sharma said. |
