KVK, Reasi provides innovative agri-solutions to farmers amid COVID-19

Reasi, May 27: Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Reasi under the administrative control of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology-Jammu (SKUAST-J) is providing the innovative agri-solutions to various constraints faced by the farmers during COVID-19 pandemic.
According to Banarsi Lal, Scientist & Head of KVK, Reasi KVK scientists are endevouring to provide the innovative agri-solutions to the farmers of different areas so that they can generate more income and employment even during this difficult juncture of time.
According to him, KVK scientists are guiding the farmers on lemon grass farming and its value addition, strawberry cultivation with its value addition, value addition in mushroom, value addition in floriculture, commercial beekeeping, value addition in mango, turmeric and ginger cultivation, Kadaknath farming, azolla cultivation as an organic feed for the animals etc.
Dr.Banarsi said that at this time sometimes farmers face the constraints to sale their raw farm produce and the value addition in different crops can uplift the economic status of the farmers of hilly areas. KVK, Reasi scientists are guiding the farmers on agri-entrepreneurship among the rural youths so that the income and employment opportunities can be created for them.
He said that KVK is encouraging the farmers for post-harvest technologies in fruits and vegetables by which new micro-entrepreneurships can be developed in the rural areas. He narrated that KVK is guiding the farmers on value addition in alovera, turmeric, ginger, aonla, dairy, sericulture etc. by which farmers can generate more income. Packaging, branding and efficient marketing of agro-products have been guided by the KVK. Dr.Banarsi said that value addition in floriculture can open new avenues in Reasi distt as the district has immense potential in flowers production. He said that organic floral products have demand in the market and farmers can enhance their income by making them in the rural areas. He added that KVK is encouraging the farmers to effectively use the Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) amid COVID-19 pandemic.
He said that KVK scientists are guiding the farmers on making the bio-products at rural level. He narrated that KVK is stressing on the organic farming farming by which the nutritional and health status of people can be improved. He added that agro-met advisories are regularly provided by the KVK by which the farmers can get more profits by timely sowing and managing their crops. KVK is also encouraging the women farmers on nutri-gardens to mitigate the nutritional problem of the families.
