AYUSH organized webinar on Yoga for Maternal Health | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Jun 18: Directorate of Indian Systems of Medicine (AYUSH) J&K has been organizing Yoga Saptaha to mark the celebration of 7th International Day of Yoga. As per the guidelines of Ministry of AYUSH and current year theme “ Be with Yoga, Be at Home” due to the prevailing pandemic situation, most of the activities are being organized from various virtual platforms in collaboration with other departments under the guidance of Director Indian Systems of Medicine, AYUSH J&K, Dr. Mohan Singh. The purpose of conducting the webinar series is to promote Yoga in collaboration with various departments in different spheres of life. In this series, a webinar is conducted in collaboration with Directorate of Health Services Jammu and Directorate of School Education Jammu. Dr. Harjeet Rai from Superspeciality Hospital Government Medical College and Dr. S.P. Pourush Shrikhandia from Directorate of School Education, Jammu joined as resource persons. Dr. Harjeet Rai who has served as Program Manager of Maternal Health in NHM shared his insights how Yoga can be used as integral part of routine ante-natal and post-natal care. He also highlighted the importance of Yoga in pre-conception and puerperium. Dr. Rai also informed the participants about Lakshya guidelines of maternal health care issued by Govt. of India, wherein Yoga is integrated as a health practice for the care of pregnant women. The other guest speaker from Directorate of School Education, Jammu, Dr. Shrikhandia highlighted the benefits which students and teachers can reap if Yoga is integrated in the school education. He highlighted that Yoga inculcates mindfulness and awareness among school going children which may prove instrumental not only in the optimization of academic performance but also address their cognitive, emotional health needs. The webinar was attended by AYUSH Medical Officers, paramedical staff, teaching faculty and students from the directorate from School Education Department. More than 300 participants attended the webinar. Both the speakers expressed that interdepartmental collaboration is the need of hour for taking such wellness initiatives to the public at grass root level.
